i7 6700k vs i5 6600k

They have 100 dollar difference in my country and i want only gaming no stream and probably i am not gonna overclock only when the games come rly demanding (i dont care so for 60 fps just smooth and no ultra settings medium-high i got an r9 280)what should i get?My current cpu is q9550 gonna do full upgrade mobo+ram etc.

if you are never going to stream, then get the i5, it is just as fast in gaming, the i7 only is better for render and streaming.

If you are just going to be gaming on medium settings, then the i5 6600K CPU would be perfect for your needs. the i7 would be overkill.

you make it sound as if the i7 would be better for say high settings. gaming wise they are identical, as there are no games to make use of the extra threads. That CPU will be fine for Ultra at just about every resolution at stock. the only issues that could arise would be in really CPU intensive game at 1080p, and even then it woulds till run ultra. It is a top of the line processor.

as an owner of an I5-6600k I can tell you that this CPU doesn't hold me back in any game what so ever, with my R9 290x I can max out any game with a steady 60 fps at 1080p without any problems.

There are multi-threaded games, such as GTA V, but all it means is that each thread has less of a load placed on it. It doesn't translate into more performance.
