i7 6700k - what is the true voltage?

I appreciate this may have already been answered somewhere but I am yet to see an actual answer.

I am new to OC and decided to look into OC my i7 6700k from stock 4.0 ghz to 4.5ghz following guides like https://rog.asus.com/articles/guides/guide-overclocking-core-i7-6700k-on-the-maximus-viii-extreme/ . I started by setting the voltage to 1.325 in the bios and ran a stress test using RealBench and everything was fine so I decided to lower the voltage. In my bios I am currently at 1.26 for the core voltage but when I run a stress test I noticed that in CPUID HWMonitor the core voltage is a lot higher than that set in the bios. What is the reason for this? Is my cpu running at 1.260v or 1.312v as seen in this screenshot https://gyazo.com/b48f4ca3b3f31874f11fbde22921c608? From what I can tell when idle my pc is at 1.280v and when under full load 1.312v but why are the values higher than the 1.260v that I set in my bios?

Any help is much appreciated especially if you advise me on how to get more accurate voltage readings.

I'm using Asus Maximus VIII Hero and I was using auto for LLC but I ended up following a YouTube vid to overclocked to 4.6ghz at 1.31v LLC6, appreciate the response though :)


I understand that but why would I set the bios voltage to 1.30v when in reality it is going to exceed this by a fair amount. For example if i set the bios voltage to 1.25v and run a test under 100% load then CPUID HWMonitor shows a max voltage of 1.296v which is close to the original voltage I wanted to test. My point being that to test my cpu's stability while running at full load at 1.30v I have to actually set the bios voltage lower than this.

I have a 6700k at 4.7ghz on an ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO board. In BiOS I set the voltage to 1.285V and according to CPU-Z, it idles at 1.309V, and will randomly drop as low as 1.22V and spike as high as 1.37V
