I've tried to find an answer myself, but I still don't really know.
Since the I7 6800K is made to be use with quad channel ram. How much of a performance difference would it make if I use 2x8gb vs 4x8 gb. Would I lose a lot of potential if I only use 2x8gb?
This is mainly for gaming purpose.

For popular benchmarking tools like Cinebench R15, I would guess there is approximately 10-15% performance gain

For gaming, the difference is smaller.

Aida64 benchmarks will give you a pretty good idea of response time and bandwidth, but if you're looking for gains like gaming fps then you'll probably get like 5% or less, not a noticeable difference to me

but there's a difference nonetheless and everything adds up

I have an i7 4930k that supports quad channel. I was thinking the same thing a few years ago when I read two different articles showing gaming benchmarks in dual channel vs quad channel. This difference was less than 1% so I stuck with 2x8 sticks of DDR 3 2400
