i7 6850K (4GHz OC) good enough for 2x 2080 Ti (Nvlinked)?

Motherboard is an X99 Asus ROG Rampage V Edition 10. 64GB DDR4 (2133MHz non-OC). Is this 6-core/12-thread 6850K CPU enough for not limiting the GPUs at 4K? Otherwise I will have to buy 9xxx X-family CPUs (when they launch) to get those many CPU PCIe lanes for x16/x16 PCIe configuration needed for the two GPUs. (Will also have to shell out money for an X299 mobo then)

Solution

Your 6850k should be just fine. In the few games that do support sli you might not see the framerates that someone is getting with a I7 7980x but I doubt that would happen considering that the 2080ti even in sli won't get ridiculously high framerates in 4k.

@Lutfig . I have already bought two of these GPUs. Now I am worried about the CPU being not up-to-the-mark. Is there a way to test if the CPU and the DDR4 memory are affecting gaming performance at 4K?

its REALY HARD to bottleneck a GPU if you dont use some wierd setups, like 2080 ti on core 2 duo or first generation i5. you CPU is only 2 years old, yes it will run 2x2080 like a charm even 3 of those :D but i think as the rest its little overkill 2080ti for gaming. but again, why NOT! i would like to have 2x2080ti in my pc :)
