i7-7500U TDP Throttling

I have an ASUS laptop with an i7-7500u and 930mx.I overclocked the gpu and it works fine below 80C.However my cpu tdp throttles in games. While playing it works fine but when i go to the menu it clocks itself down to 400mhz and it is so bad.For example in fortnite i have like 60-80 fps in game and 100fps in menu but when I finish playing a match and going to the menu it is 30-40 fps instead of 100fps...I downloaded Hwinfo64 and it showed me that my cpu tdp limit was 15W but I checked the other days and it was 20W and it wasnt throttling.Any idea how to inscrease tdp limit since i know it is safe?I have to disable turbo in order not to throttle :/.Can somebody help me inscrese by 5W the tdp limit up to 20W?

Thanks In Advance.

Just a word of advice, those changes may stick for a while and formatting your disk might not have nothing to do with it.
Sometimes I had to redo the changes after a hard reset or a BIOS update.
Updating the BIOS had fix the throttling issue on some laptops.

If that solved your issues then click the 'Pick as the solution' button so others with similar can find help.
Thanks

Which Asus laptop model?
Is 80°C the GPU or CPU temperature?
Have you try changing power management settings.

I have tested the Asus X556 with the same CPU/GPU combination and temps didn't go above 78 °C while gaming.
I open it up cleaned the dust and use new thermal paste and the temps went down by 6°C

The max temp my gpu has ever hit is 77C and my max temp for the cpu is 88C.I am pretty sure that the cpu does not thermal throttle because the temps are usually good (below 80) even though sometimes it reaches 80-82C.I also tried undervolting it and didnt see a difference in throttling even though the temps were 5C lower.I dont think its a good idea to open it up and clean the dust because I bought it a uple of months ago.And yeah I have high performance power management.

Check the Windows Power Management under Power Options
If is set to Balanced, change it to 'High performance'...you might need to click 'Show additional plans'

It is in High Performance. The only solution is not to pass the tdp limit by turning off turbo boost from throttlestop. The other way to get around with it is to raise the tdp limit from 15W to 20W do you know how to do that?

I asked previously for the model of your laptop. Since some gaming laptops have the option in the BIOS or it can be done with a tuning utility from manufacturer.

I have done this on several laptops and was able to reduce throttle.
Download and install Intel XTU
Go to 'Core' under 'Advance Tuning'
Reduce the 'Turbo Boost Short Power Max' (on the left) to match the 'Turbo Boost Power Max (on the right).

I had downloaded it but i have a problem and there.I Install it but when I search for it i cant find it.I uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times but it didnt work. The laptop model is ASUS X556URK.I get 0x80070642 error when i try to uninstall. It used to work absolutely fine though. Can you do me a favour and send me a link to an old version of it.That might work.I have searched but nothing.

Oh!The PL1(Power Limit 1 Long Duration) is 20W instead of 15W.I saw it in hwinfo64.I will now test it in games to see if it throttles.I dont think so.But after some days it will return 15 W and I will have the same problem.

And yeah!!!It didnt throttle.I even heard music while playing FOrtnite and it didnt throttle at all not even below 3ghz.3,3-3,5ghz which was nice.If I have to deal with this problem again i will patient. If i lose my patience i will format my ssd and install xtu to solve this problem like you told me.Anyways thanks for your help and your time!!!

I just realised that by uninstalling intel thermal network the power limit 1 long duration goes from 15w to 20w so that's a solution 😉
