i7 7700 82c with liquid cooler

i7 7700
cooler master master liquid lite 120
corsair cs750 psu
z270 m6 msi motherboard
gtx 1080 gamingx 8gb
16 gb corsair vengence ram

when playing witcher 3 on ultra i have cpu temperature rise to 82c.

is this common ? will it damage my cpu or any other components?

It's not common, it's universal for the 7000 series intel chips. CPU damage is possible in the long run but nothing else should be affected.

Well depending on how good that cooler is maybe. It's a 40 dollar 120mm liquid cooler so I dont expect it to do very well, however I would expect a bit better than that. I have a 7700k at 4.5ghz with a cheap hyper 212 evo air cooler and my temps barely exceed 65c when playing the withcer 3, it is not a very cpu heavy game. We have different gpu's so it's not apples to apples but still I would expect better temps than that in witcher 3. What do you get up to in stress tests? If it's hitting 82c in games it will likely get quite hot during a stress test.

It is not common for a 7700 to run at 82c in a game that is not very cpu heavy with a 120mm water cooler. Intel recommends kaby lake cpu's stay under 75c for prolonged use, 82c wont hurt anything immediately but it could cause the cpu to degrade faster. Try running a stress test like aida64, I bet it goes to 100c and throttles the cpu. You sure you mounted that cooler correctly?

delidding is an extreme solution, it's not throttling, it's not on high voltage, it's 20C away from it's limits. Can you increase the fan and pump speeds. Personally I think that a 120mm AIO is too small.

from the msi bios i disabled the smart fan mode. now it is running in full speed i think

slightly lower temperature. today i will again try playing witcher 3 in ultra and check the temperature.
