Hi

I am about to build a new computer. It will mainly be used as a dual boot Windows/Linux workstation, mostly file transfers, virtualization, video/sound encoding, lots of multitasking, and with the occassional game every know and then.

After reading in here, and googling, I've ended up with the following list.

Before I order everything I just want to ask if anyone notices any glaring errors in my build or I would be better of exchanging some of the components with something else.

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/RhLnqk

CPU: Intel - Core i7-7700 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Asus - PRIME H270-PRO ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Samsung - 850 EVO 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB GAMING X Video Card
Case: Cooler Master - CM 590 III (White) ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

The list is also somewhat dictated by what is available locally.
Thanks for any comments made.

Nothing glaring. It's a good build. However, for just £20 extra. You can get a much faster NVMe SSD. The Samsung SM961 256GB. With vastly superior Read and Writes speeds and far higher IOPS. Considering the cost of your build. It is well worth the small increase. It also uses Samsung's high endurance 3D V-NAND MLC memory.

I know these comparison sites aren't always the best. It's the easiest comparison to find. As these two aren't on the same playing field. It is difficult to find a review directly comparing the two.

I would also note that the Intel 600p and Western Digital Black SSD are other NVMe models in the same price range. The Samsung SM961 is the fastest.

I followed your suggestion and have just ordered the PM961.
So I will go ahead with the build 🙂
