i7-7700 or i7-6700 with GTX 1060?

Hello,

so I can't decide which laptop to buy. They both have GTX 1060, but one has i7-7700 and the other one has i7-6700. The 6700 is 100$ cheaper.
Any advice? I'd really appreciate that.

Solution

Then the cheaper i7 6700hq is the better choice, the i7 7700hq is clocked only 200-300mhz higher and is not worth it. :)

6700 for $100 cheaper sounds like a good deal. They are not much different in performance I don't think. I f you can afford to get the 7700 then why not, otherwise go for the 6700.

What about the bottleneck part?

I don't see a GTX 1060 bottlenecking a i7-6700/i7-7700. GPU should be able to perform at 99% load with the CPU sitting well below 99%.

I had a i7-3770 with a GTX 1080 - that was a bottleneck. On BF1, the CPU was pegged at 99% while the GTX 1080 was sitting at 40% load.

It's i7-6700/7700 HQ. And both 4 core.

An i7, mobile or not, isn't a bottleneck for a gtx 1060. For those finding an i7 bottlenecking a 1080 chances are their resolution is the problem. 1080p is no longer king of the hill with 1440p and 4k displays, the gtx 1080/1080ti are intended for 1440p to 4k use. It's about matching the gpu to the game's requirements (all games differ) AND to the display. Pairing a couple of titan x's in sli at 720p resolution will never use the full potential of the gpu's, it's not what they were intended for.

As others suggested, for the price difference I'd suggest the cheaper one. Not that big of a difference between the cpu's.

Go with i7 7700 ..

The one with newer CPU is likely to have better hardware options , other than the CPU alone
