I7 7700 vs i5 7600k

I'd like to know what cpu is the best to pair with my gtx 1070. Some say the i7 is pure waste and some say you need it for current demanding games such as bf1. What cpu has the best price/performance? Im not interested in wasting another 50€ for an i7 if I only gain like 4 fps. Also whats skylake,haswell and kabylake ?

If you don't have a motherboard already I'd get a Ryzen 1600. The 7700 is slightly better if you are trying to achieve 144fps for a 144Hz monitor but its only a little better, the best gaming cpu is the 7700k which can be overclocked but again its only worth it if needing high fps.

The 4 cores of the i5 make it look a bad investment in my view. Games are starting to use more than 4 cores/threads and with Ryzen available it looks a much better option for that price range.

Haswell, Skylake, Kabylake are different generations of Intel CPU's.

At this point I would either get the 7700 or a Ryzen 5 CPU, there's not a whole lot of merit to buying a 4C/4T CPU anymore when there are plenty of higher thread options out there. Lots of games already use more than 4 threads and that number should only be climbing now that Ryzen and Coffee Lake (intel's next generation) will be increasing the number of cores that the average user has in their system. I have an i5 and there are already a few games where it's starting to show a bit of weakness, but I'm not at the point where I feel like upgrading is worth buying a new mobo and RAM as well. Skylake and Haswell are Intel generations of CPUs that all indicate a line of products using the same manufacturing process. Haswell is 22nm and Skylake is 14nm. Kaby lake is literally just a slightly more overclockable version of Skylake because they got better at making 14nm CPUs.

Ok thanks! Can I go with the non k i7 7700 and still be good or will I need to oc it soon ? Will it be good in games without oc'ing ?

i7 7700 is plenty fast for gaming, especially if you're pushing your graphics card at a higher resolution.

The i7 and a cheap motherboard is a better deal than a 7600K and a Z270 board in my opinion if you're ok with not having greater than 2400MHz RAM support

Ok. But am I fine in the current games ? How will bf1 run for example ? Will I still dominate fps wise without 'k' ?

Its about a 45$ difference but then I also have to get a more expensive mobo so that I can oc. But I guess I'll go for the 'k' version and be patient!

If you're running 1080p/144hz, a 1070-1080ti type GPU and you still have a pretty good budget left: 7700k + Z270. Trying to save but get good gaming? R5 1600/1400.

Getting a 1060 and don't want any kind of CPU bottleneck aka the max 1060 performance? R3 1200 Oc'd. Not too concerened about CPU bottleneck with a 1060 if it's not a lot and want to save the most money? G4560.

BF1 (my #1 game) does love fast ram (gamersnexus.net) which is why I got my ram at 4ghz.

It's funny how many people talk shit about the i5 and say don't get it if you have a 1440p 144hz monitor. Dude I have i5 7600k OC to 4.9ghz and a GTX 1070, I play forza horizon 3, BF1, GTA V and overwatch @1440p and I am getting 85+fps on all those games with no problems at all with my asus pg279q 144hz monitor. If you're planning to use it for gaming only, I'd suggest you to go with the 7600k. If you're planning to game and render, no the i7 7700 is way better even in streaming
