I've got an i7 7700 with 8GB of RAM currently ( 2 x 4GB sticks), I want to add 2 more 4GB sticks to make 16GB total. Will this work, or would I be wasting my money?

curiously, I've mixed RAM (brands, not speeds) on cheaper computers with slow(ish) processors (Celerons, Pentiums, i3, even an i5, Ryzen3) and haven't had any problems. But I've never tried it on my fast computers (i7-xxxx, 6th and 7th gens). I guess I'm afraid that's where the incompatibility will show up. I also try to max out the RAM in my fast builds to begin with, so I don't run into the problem later on...so the answer is...um...RAM is expensive so probably don't try to mix it up.

Buy the new, total amount of RAM you want, install it, and sell the old sticks. That stuff is bringing good prices on eBay.
