So i just finished my new build and after checking the temps i was genuinely shocked. While my BIOS CPU temp (don't know how else to call it) hits 66 max under full load, the cores reach over 100. I'm using HWInfo to monitor everything. I re-applied the thermalpaste and no significant differences.

Notes:
The thermal compound is a few weeks old. I lost the cap, but does the formula/effect change? It was still liquid when i pushed it out.

The backplate of the Corsair H100i v2 arrived broken, so i could only screw 2 thumbscrews down diagonally. It's still a tight fit though. I contact Corsair RMA for a replacement backplate, but could this have any effect?

Solution
use something like HWinfo64 or HWMonitor to capture voltages and clocks under full load.

I wouldn't use the system with such temperatures.

Assuming your MB is not pushing some crazy voltages, the issue might be the CPU itself.
there are quite a few reports of "too hot" kaby lake CPUs as intel is again using some poor TIM under IHS.
deliding kaby lakes lowers the temperatures by 20C easily. I don't know how comfortable you would be with such procedure on your new system as it will void the warranty.
Of course such thing should be done after you know everything else is right.

First steps are
* verifiyng voltages/clocks.
* using manual settings for the above
*updating/reseting MB bios
* making sure the cooler is mounted properly with...
