I am already running an i3 7100 in my b150 mobo and I'm thinking on upgrading to an i7. The 7700k is 15€ more expensive than the 7700. Will the 7700k run at its 4.2GHz or will it be limited by the non-z chipset? Should I migrate the entire system to AM4 or even wait for another processor lineup and upgrade my system then? Thanks in advance.

Other than needing a competent cooler to contend with the 7700K's greater heat produced, $10-$15 more for the 600 MHz higher base clock and 300 MHz higher turbo boost is a bargain....

If you'll notice in all the 8700K vs. 2700X comparisons that have included the 7700K in gaming comparisons as a control, it still fares VERY well, as expected.

Thanks. In other threads where this came up to the chat some people said exactly the opposite. Now I can be sure.

Yes, they are already running a 7th gen CPU, so it will likely work with another 7th Gen. But I think the point to make here is that it is still worthwhile to check the BIOS/CPU Support compatibility sheet to make sure the intended CPU is supported.

Sometimes the K series chips will exceed the power limits of OEM boards for example.
