Ok, a little history. I used to have an Asrock Z270 Gaming motherboard that died on me. A friend gave me an i5-6500 and an MSI b150m Bazooka motherboard. Asrock wouldn't support the board due to me getting it from someone else.
On MSI's site supported cpu's show the i7-7700k as supported but with a BIOS update, which I haven't done yet.
The issue? My old Z270 board had the normal 24 pin power plus an 8 pin cpu power. The b150 only has a 4 pin power. NOW, I never overclocked my i7 before, but is the lack of an extra 4 pin going to cause issues? I see the 6500 is a 65W cpu and the 7700k is a 95W cpu.
Rest of my system specs are as follows:
MSI Gaming X Twin Frozr GTX 1080 gpu
16GB Geil DDR4 ram
1x Samsung 1TB 850(?) evo SSD
2x 2TB HDD's
1x 1.5TB HDD
NZXT Hue+ with 4 light strips and 3x 140mm RGB fans.
EVGA SuperNova G3 750W psu
Asus ROG 27" 144Hz 2560x1440 g-sync monitor
Asus 32" 60Hz 2560x1440 standard
I only use this system for gaming and streaming Netflix on the second screen, I don't stream to other's and don't really do heavy photo/video editing.
I'm trying to decide if it's worth the risk of flashing the BIOS and upgrading back to my i7 or just sell the i7 and keep using the i5.
Thanks for all the help.
