i7-7700k only 2 cores are activated, how to activate all

Hey guys,

I replaced my old CPU (i5-6400) to a i7-7700k, so after the replace I booted up my PC and only saw a blackscreen so I shut downed my computer and did some research, and my uefi(bios)wasn't updated so I replaced it again with my old CPU - updated the uefi - and replaced it again with the new one. After that it worked, but what I saw in other videos is that there should be a windows message after booting up your computer about your new CPU, which I didn't get. After checking around, I noticed that only 2 cores and 4threads were "activated" Is there a way to fix this without uninstalling windows?

Try clearing your CMOS for a minute or two.

What motherboard do you have,
you might need to do a bios update to ready up for coffee lake.

@dextermat 7700k is kaby lake, and coffee lake wouldn't work on the same mobo as an i5 6400 or 7700k regardless of BIOS.

I cleared it but it didn't change anything expect for resetting my bios settings (which is not a problem)

Update: I went to msconfig > start > advanced options > unchecked the processor amount, after restarting my computer I had 3 cores enabled, dafuq is this, why is the forth not enabled now? >.< https://gyazo.com/1cab133fc6db233aa28866125916f811

Edit (Last Update): So after clearing the CMOS again, I had 4 cores 8threads now. Just uncheck the processor limit in msconfig. Thank you all for the help.

Glad to assist , I had the same issue on a Z97 Pro Gamer a couple of years ago and the CMOS clear fixed mine.
