Hello, I have just purchased the custom built SFF PC with the following specs

Prior to making an order the retailer advised there would be no significant cooling issues with this case but when running the PC at heavy load (like flight simming in VR) I can find that the CPU heat up to 98-100C which is the throttling limit. At idle light tasks its from 50 to 60 deg.

The quality control sheet from retailer shows 87 C CPU temp at max load.

Is there anything wrong with the way I have selected the case/components combination that cause such temperatures or there should be something not working properly in the cooing system? It is really very frustrating to buy such an expensive build and not to be sure your components are operating safely.

Thanks, I hope it is that easy solution and I wont have to move to a different case or RMA the chip. Will take the system to repair shop tomorrow for investigation and TBS.

Yeah I agree, it's likely the pump or mounting. Did you apply thermal paste?

Actually it is a custom built system I have received from a reputable UK vendor, I would expect them to apply one... The problem is that I am in Cyprus so shipping it back under warranty would be a bit of trouble and additional cost. I just wanted to make sure that it was not my initial wrong choice of the case for this CPU that causes the temperatures to sky rocket. If it is just defective pump or wrong mounting I hope it should be easy to fix locally.

Well even in that small case assuming there is a decent amount of airflow going through the radiator, it is mounted properly, and the pump is working it should not get near that hot while gaming at stock clocks and voltage.

Thank you for reassurance, that is my feeling also otherwise they would not sell it. I will post the TBS results when complete.

Hello, all, I have brought the system to the local enthusiast PC store and the results of the works as follows:

"The Asetek cooler is probably working, though the rad is too thick so we cannot use it in a push pull configuration in this case. Also the Fan that comes with the Asetek is very low RPM (800 rpm).

With the H75 we get 90c average on a 20minute stress (it is still undergoing). We also rotated the fans on the H75 so that they pull air outside the front of the case and not push air inside the case (in short they are used as exhaust fans) . We tried both ways and this way we do not get overheat throttling on the CPU.

Overheat throttling we had with the Asetek too.

Our final configuration is giving no overheat on the CPU and no throttling of the CPU.

My final thoughts
H75 we got from heavy 100c+ on the CPU to 90C average during full load
The mesh version of the case will not help much, we tried the same tests with no cover on the case and CPU is having the same temps because mostly its air ventilation problems we have now.
All the temps and figures are over a period time (we use longer periods of time because it takes time so the case and all the parts start to heat up and not 1-2 minutes tests

We use AIDA64 Engineer for our test, I do not believe that the PC will be used again as we test it now (I mean general usage, gaming etc are not rigorous like these tests)."

Do you think I should feel safe now about using the PC for gaming? The opinion of the shop is that if I still want to see lower temps I need to move in a bigger case.

If they have posted that they have tested the system before shiping and you have done nothink to compromise the flow or components then the varanty should cower you if it goes wrong.

Thanks, basically this shop was correcting the poor cooling solution from the vendor in the UK which I have ordered the PC from. I am just trying to understand if 90C average on AIDA64 Engineering test is a reassuring result for gaming use of PC in the long-term without compromising the longliverty of the hardware...

Personally I think it's to high. but according to Intel it's not in the red.

The flow or the CPU cooler needs to be improved. More flow into the case or a better CPU cooler.

Iam using a Noctua NH-D14 on my Intel I7.

Solution would be a new CPU cooler or a new case with extra fans...

Hello, just to follow up - moving to a new case (Cougar QBX Kaze which provides for additional 5 case fans) and installing Corsair H75 cooler solved the problem, now the temps now don't exceed 69-70C under any circumstance.
