Hello,

I upgraded from an i5-6400 to an i7-7700k about 2 weeks ago. It was running fine until now. My CPU speed drops to 0.76GHz after about 5 minutes of my PC being on. I have no overclock on.

Specs of my PC:
Motherboard: MSI Z170 M7 (Flashed my BIOS before buying the CPU)
GPU: MSI R9 390
PSU: EVGA 650 GQ
Processor: i7-7700k
RAM: 16BG of G-Skill at 2500
CPU Cooler: MSI Frozr l

I was wondering if someone could help me figure out what the problem would be. I ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and it all passed, thought during the whole test the CPU stayed at .76GHZ.

So far I have tried resetting the CMOS. Flashing the BIOS. Updating all Drivers. and other little things I have found online. Anyone have any suggestions??

Do you still have this issue? I've read a few people having this same issue with that motherboard and what worked for them was downgrading their bios. I know some older bios don't support Kaby lake so do this at your own risk. I returned my 7700k because it was 60c at idle using 3 different motherboards and 4 different CPU coolers. It wasn't overclocked and the voltage was 1.2v.

Did you get another 7700K? did it have better temps?

No I just returned it Friday, I know the 7700k runs hotter but that was insane. I have no idea which CPU to get. I am a content creator, video editing (4k), digital art, 3D modeling etc.

Ryzen chips are essentially the same as Intel Xeon E5 chips but unlocked. All around very good chips, especially for the price.
