Hi Guys,

After building my first PC I have a couple queries I hope you guys could help me with.

I currently have a i7 7700k that I am planning on using at stock speeds due to my gigabyte b250m-Ds3H motherboard. I have used the CPU on BF1 and seen one core reach a peak of 77 degrees Celsius, for the most part the cores tend to float around 65 when playing the game. I decided to run the small FFT on prime 95 v26.6 and am seeing thermal throttling occur very frequently and the temperature will not exceed 77. I would like to know if this is something to worry about as I have no experience myself.

I am thinking that maybe there is not enough airflow to my Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi cooler as I have only one intake and exhaust, but other than that I am stumped.

Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

77 is a decent temperature still. A little warm yes but as I said, expected of 7700k. You'd need better case cooling and more powerful cpu cooler if you want to go down considerably from there. Only when it gets into high 80s, low 90s is when you should start worrying.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. With regards to the throttling I think I have got the hang of why it is happening. In my BIOS I have the power limit at 91W and power limit time is set to 10 (I assume it is in ms) by default so as my CPU reaches 91W TDP in prime 95 for 10ms it then quickly reduces the frequency.

I don't plan on changing this as I won't plan on reaching this limit in normal use, just interesting is all.
