It can work, but you will need a BIOS update. I recommend getting a Z270, or just drop down to the 6700K if you can.

Probably with a bios update but unless they've done something different you'd need the bios flashed prior to receiving it. Or you'd need a 6th gen cpu to install long enough to update the bios before using the 7700k on it.

Out of the box, 6th gen are designed for 100 series boards and 7th gen 200 series boards. Not much point in getting an older gen board for the latest gen cpu, the compatibility is for current 6th gen z170 users to be able to update and upgrade to 7th gen. Not really the other way around.

Yes a 6700K will work just fine with a Z170.
