Hi everyone. Which CPU should i choose for gaming? I7 7800x or i7 7820x? Actually i7 7800x is 100$ cheaper, but i worry about performance and temperature. My case Cooler Master Cosmos II can only fit 280mm radiator max.
P.S i play more CS:GO

Well, it's really all about perspective. 7800x is definitely more than enough to play games and realistically, if both 7800x and 7820x are clocked similarly - there won't really be any real difference in games.

I just think it's shame to waste X299 platform on 6/12 CPU, but it is enough to play games yes, provided you can OC is well.

Neither. I7-8700K is simply outright better than I7-7800x and cheaper too when you account board costs etc.

On the other hand I7-7820x is technically better than I7-8700K, but I don't think it's a wise purchase overall. I mean, what are you going to do with I7-7820x? If that's only gaming - get I7-8700K and don't bang your head on the wall.

I bought it 6 months ago and i dont want to return it. It build my pc for future upgrades. X299 will be actual 2-3 years, but z370 changes to z470 or someting like this, every year with different socket.. so to buy new CPU.. example i7 9700k you should buy new motherboard too.

@OP what then do you want us to recommend?

Here let me state the obvious if this was not clear enough I7 7820x > I7 7800x.

I think that buying I7-7800x is a waste of time because it has nothing special about it, it's basically an underclocked 8700K with quad-channel RAM. So buy 7820x, because it is both a solid 8/16 CPU and has actually decent base clocks too and can be overclocked decently too.

This way you will at least have actual future proofing with 2 extra cores on Intel, which will keep this machine roughly on par with next year's mainstream.

Also don't count on x299 socket to carry you in the bright future, Intel are retiring X range of processors.

Thanks for normal answer :) . I know that 8 cores better .. but i want to know does it worth to pay extra 100$ for +2 cores and will i see difference in games? And one important thing about temperature. My case doesn't (Cosmos II) fit 360mm radiator so i can place max 280mm.
