Hello,
I’m working on a project to upgrade my current system and make it a little more powerful.

I’m looking for a great cooler for an 8086K. Currently I have the NH-D14 in my cart(the NH-D15 won’t fit my case). ALSO No Delidding please, I am way too beginner to even think on attempting something like that. KEEP in mind I also wanna do some overclocking.

Here’s the Part List and Upgrades I’m planning to make.

Parts:
CPU: i3-6100 ——> i7-8086K
MOBO: ASRock B250M-HDV ———> MSI Z370 Gaming Plus
Cooler: Intel Stock ——-> Maybe NH-D14
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 500W ———> EVGA SuperNOVA G1+ 650W 80+ Gold Modular
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8GB
Storage: Micron 128GB M.2 SSD + WD Red 2TB
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB
Case: Thermaltake Versa N21

——-> = Upgrading To

PCPP: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Jc6Cw6

P.S: apart from telling me if my cooler is fine. I’d love to know if my new parts will be good.

Thanks,

Have you already purchased the 8086K? If not, I HIGHLY advise going for the 8700k, or maybe something even lower. The clock speeds aren't worth the price markup imo. You don't need to return it if you've already bought it, though. Aside from that, a few observations I've made. Your build seems somewhat unbalanced- Going for an i7 before 16 GB of RAM, and only a 3 GB 1060 card. What are you doing with the PC? Personally, you could save a HUGE amount of money by going for the 8600K, and investing in a higher-tier GPU like the 6 GB 1060.

As for coolers, the NH-D14 is fantastic. It handled my old 6700k very nicely, with a decent OC to boot. Alternatively, you could go for a liquid cooler like the H100i, but at that point it's more for aesthetic benefit than anything else. Also, that PSU could be better. Go for a Focus unit from SeaSonic- excellent quality, slightly higher price tag. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/WrNypg/seasonic-focus-plus-gold-650w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ssr-650fx

I’m fairly sure I won the intel giveaway for the 8086K. I do understand that 8GB is low for the i7 but as of right now I don’t like the price of RAM. Right now, I just want to upgrade my PC to support the new processor and then get some other things like graphics and ram. Thanks anyway. Also thanks for the advice on the NH-D14. Looks like I might go with it.

make sure you don't go too crazy with the oc, mobo is a budget variant, stock or light oc around (4.6~4.8 oc all core) should not be an issue as these cpus are cherry picked and should work fairly well at low voltages. if you intend to oc, best "budget" z370 is asrock ex4.

cooler is good, enjoy your new toy.

I’ll check it out.

Op may also want to look at a Scythe Mugen 5 Rev. B. Which is just a gnat's eyelash away from the Noctua NH-D15. For around the same price as the Fuma.

for tier list,

top tiers are : asrock taichi, asus rog (non strix), gigabyte aorus gaming 7, msi m7 and the price reflects that.

good mobo from middle tier is asrock ex4, msi pro carbon, ftw2 z370

budget line: msi z370 gaming plus (need some air flow on the vrm)

Since you should be getting it from the giveaway you really should wait to buy the components until you have the processor in hand.
If you order now and something is DOA you may miss the return window by the time the processor arrives, especially if the october 21st date is to be believed.

I know, I just wanna see what my options are beforehand so I don’t rush out and grab something random. Thanks though

The Mugen 5 is suprisingly short for it's performance. It only needs 154.5mm clearance. It's even shorter than a Hyper 212 Evo (159mm).

The Thermaltake Versa N21 allows for up to a 160mm CPU Cooler. If the op changed the case selection. I did not notice.

Its bad
I heard i7 8700K can OC better than i7 8086K Limited Edition - I returned..

8086K going have temp issue even with the best cooling solution Liquid or AIR because of that 5GHZ

ORLY? Because I run I7-8086K stable 5.1GHz at 1.35v.

Here after 1 hour of Prime95 1344 torture test I did just now: CPU max temp 80, casual use it barely breaks 50. Yes it's delidded, which is what you do if you want to get above 5GHz and run it 24/7 like that.

I7-8086K is literally a pre-binned I7-8700K, if you buy it - you dodge silicon lottery with it because 100% of the samples can do 5GHz all cores and 92% can do 5.1GHz, as reported by Silicon Lottery guys. It is better than 8700K which is not guaranteed 5GHz all cores and only 50% can do 5.1GHz all cores. That's actual data there and not hearsay..

Given that the OP specifically said he wasn't going to delid, demonstrating that you don't have temperature problems with a delidded 8086k isn't particularly helpful.

Reply was to the guy above who claimed that somehow I7-8700K overclocks better than I7-8086K or that I7-8086K has issues. I don't like when people spread misinformation - data is available that shows it to not be the case.

If OP won 8086K, then grats. NH-D14 is a veteran cooler with proven performance, can't go wrong there. Don't think you can get anything better that is air there and will suit your case.

Yeah if its stable at that speed when running stress tests, then its a good chip.

My 8700k needs about 1.35v for 4.9ghz to be stable under stress. I havent de lidded yet though.

I do cpu z benchmark and stress test its around 75c and 90 on last prime. I guess 30c room temp is just what gives me those extra few points on heat.

I stress tested 10 15 min. I dont feel comfortable barbequing my cpu

Happy it works with 1.235v and vcio 1.0

Noctua 14 triple fan and medium case that looks prettier then its airflow capabilities xD
