Question I7 860 build worth buying

Hi,
I have option to buy I7 860 with Cooler Master 212 Evo, Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3and 16GB DDR3 (2x8) RAM for approx. 72 USD.

My plan is pair it with GTX 1060 3GB,
for approx. 84 USD

I have everything else (PSU, Case, HDD and other accessories) at home.

This computer will be for my friend and he'll use it for gaming mostly.

Is it good deal ?

if budget is tight its kind of a good idea, should do fine with esports type of games like League, CS:GO or Dota.
if its 2nd hand make sure it works tho since its pretty dated.

I wanted to say no, but for 70$+80$ its a thing to consider. as anything that would offer similar performance is ~300$ new.

(I tried to find anything that would offer some more "upgrade path", but it ends up with 100$+, new)
lowest ryzen 3 offers more juice than that i7, so

If it does not run right in games, slap in a few storage drives, install Nethserver or OpenMtdiaVault, and you have a home NAS for very little money!

You can find used RX 570, for around the cost of that 1060 3gb, and it is faster.

Hi, thank you all for tips. The hardware came from my local store - I already buy it, now im booting it up. I asked about history of the HW, the employee told me the HW is from one of their customers. It came totally cleaned and reaplyed thermal paste.

PSU is 500 W

Update:
It seems to be in very good condition. I tried to overclock it. I can't get above 3.5 GHZ, but at full load the temp won't raise above 70.

While FSP can be a bit hit and miss, on quality, at least they are not dumpster fire quality, like say Apevia, or Raidmax. 3.5ghz is not all that surprising. I don't think I did much different, with an i5 750, and a similar board. I think I had the UD3R.

What Logain said. FPS generally makes boring, uninspiring, safe, middle-of-the-road PSUs that won't impress you with quality or longevity or destroy your other parts. They're the Olive Garden of power supplies.

I still do not have GPU, it should arrive today so I'll update, after installing it.

If you want used gen2 or gen3 intel are much better. That will bottleneck a lot of games. If it only works for a year that ends up costing you $70 for one year. If you have no PC now and can't get a better one anytime soon then maybe consider it.

It will be fine for gaming overall. You'll take a bit of a hit @1080p, but it will by no means be unplayable.
