Hi,

I've recently been having issues with my i7 8700, it started a few weeks ago when my PC randomly crashed and then wouldn't boot showing a WHEA Uncorrectable Error BSOD. After some digging around in the BIOS I was able to boot it back up by disabling Turbo Boost. Since then it has been running fine with Turbo Boost disabled however I am not satisfied with this solution as I'm stuck with the stock 3.2GHz clock.

Yesterday I had a look at it again and was able to boot by setting the multiplier manually for up to 3.9GHz but it is pretty unstable any higher than stock (also tried 3.8GHz and 3.6GHz), sometimes crashing under very little load with the same WHEA Uncorrectable Error BSOD. I was able to run Prime95 for 10 minutes at 3.9GHz without it crashing and temps looked okay at about 80C although this does seem a bit high.

I'm not sure what the issue is, could it be a hardware problem, either the CPU, Motherboard or PSU? Or is it a driver or BIOS issue?

My specs are:
  • i7 8700
  • MSI Z370-A Pro
  • GTX 1080
  • 32GB DDR4 2666MHz
  • Corsair CX750M PSU (from around 2014)
  • Corsair H80i Cooler
Hope you can help,
Thanks.
