Hey guys,

I’ve overclocked my i7 8700k to 5ghz and am currently using Corsair H150i 360mm radiator.

Are my temps too high for this overclock?

Idle - 30-40 degrees Celsius
Stress test - 75-82 degrees Celsius

Playing pubg it is around 50 degrees.

All cores are stable with this overclock, I’m just concerned that my temps may be a bit high?

What do you think?
Thanks!

Temps are actually perfect. Prime95 small FFT's will produce the maximum heat ever possible. You can check how it goes with it. Use RealTemp to monitor core temps as it is quite accurate. 100mhz less overclock is literally not noticeable in fps. Depending on the rest of your hardware, you can check how your rig performs. i.e. gaming in 75hz monitor renders useless to having 150-200 fps. You ll have to calibrate your rig for perfect experience, low noise, low heat, consumption etc. Well that's my view, you can run it at high overclock all day, as long as you maintain low temps

Temps are more than amazing. You can run it without any problems. My i7 8700K cannot overclock almost at all.. I have a Corsair H110i GTX and at 4.7 at stress test its 90C

The real stress test will be using it in truly demanding games like Assassin's Creed Origins or Ghost Recon Wildlands for hours to see if it holds stable.

Depending upon the motherboard, using XMP enables multicore enhancement. That automatically overclocks all 6 cores to 4.7 GHz. It has caused many processors to get very hot. Especially if they were not prepared with adequate cooling.

So If you have managed 5.0 GHz at 82 C. That is pretty good. What stress test were you using?

Stress tests are not real world situations. So normal gaming would not be close to 100 % CPU usage continuously. But never the less, i would dial it back a bit for everyday use.

Ambient temp - about 22 degrees
Voltage - 1.35v

I used CPU-z to stress test.
Perhaps I should run Prime95?

Would i receive less frames if I scaled it down to 4.9ghz?

Perhaps, but I doubt that you would notice.

Those are really good temps.. I lucked out like you also and hit around highs in 72C - 82C and idle 35c to 40c on 1.28V. I would want to take it to 5.2 but being stable at this voltage I dont think its worth it. The only time it hits high temps like 82C is when encoding with adobe media encoder. I love the 8700K.

Great temps for a no delidded 8700K...I have the same setup in the 8700K and Corsair H150i...The H150i is really good. I delidded mine recently and dropped temps a good 15 to 18 degrees C but your temps are great....Be warned the Prime95 small FFT test is brutal on the 8700K!!!

Be aware that since version 26.7 Prime's Small FFT produces some unrealistic temperatures.
"Note: 2nd and 3rd Generation i7, i5 and i3 CPU’s have AVX (Advanced Vector Extension) Instruction Sets, while 4th through 9th Generation i9, i7, i5 and i3 CPU’s have AVX2 Instruction Sets. Prime95 versions later than 26.6 run AVX codes on the CPU's Floating Point Unit (FPU). 2nd and 3rd Generation CPU’s are minimally affected by AVX, but 4th through 9th Generation with AVX2 may experience unrealistic temperatures up to 20°C higher."
