[SOLVED] i7 8700k ( Coffee Lake ) temperature high?

Hey all!

I've recently almost completely upgraded my build, with the exception of my CPU.

After switching over, I've noticed that my temperature during normal use ( NOT complete idle ) is around 35-42 °C, give or take depending on what I'm doing. This is usually having multiple tabs and photoshop open, as well as running discord.

I swear it was a lower temperature in my old build, though. More around 30-35 °C.

I have since stress tested it and at full load the CPU hits a temperature of 66-75 °C, which seems okay to me.

But is that semi-idle temperature alright? Ambient temperatures during the day are around 25-30 °C these days.

Idle doesn't matter - it's influenced by several factors.
As long as your load thermals are fine - that's more important.

Idling at 35-40c is fine and are likley being influenced by background tasks in Windows...like Phaaze88 said as long as load temps are under control you should be good to go

Looks about right on your Noctua U12S...it may be worth re-installing with new thermal paste...

Good to know this seems to be okay, the chip definitely runs totally fine for everything else temperature-wise once it starts being stressed, it's just the idle / low usage temperatures that seemed a tag higher than I originally expected.
