Question I7 8700k or i5 9600k

I have a i5 4690k right now. And im now gaming at 2560 x 1440p. Which is better for purely gaming. Right now when I run discord while playing my fps gets shot.

gtx 1080 seahawk ek x
16 gb ram

I'd get the 8700K for the extra threads as that will help out with any extra programs in the background such as Discord.

I'd pick i7 8700k.

i5 9600k might be faster in some titles for now, but it has 6 threads / 6 cores, which might be an issue in the future. At long term, I believe that 12 threads on i7 will make a difference.

So what we are seeing now, is that anything with 4 cores is struggling a bit with todays games, where as many older cpus (i7 2600k) which has 4 core and 8 threads still is pushing well. The era of 4 core is not good enough today really.
More cores/Threads will always be better even though many people on this forum have complained when Ryzen has more cores/threads than Intel they chose Intel because they perceived it to be better, which in fact it really isn't a year later.
Short term speed is no match for long term.
Go with the i7 over the i5, until the i5 is 8core
