[SOLVED] I7-8700k Seems to be running hot

Solution
You can't overclock on an H310 motherboard, you need a Z370 motherboard for that. As for the stock Intel cooler, it simply isn't good enough to run the i7 8700 or 8700k at stock speeds under heavy load conditions. Intel's current stock cooler was designed for quad core chips, but Intel has had to hastily increase core counts to compete with AMD and haven't redesigned their cooler to deal with the increased heat output. If you want an aftermarket cooler, something like a Cryorig H7 would be okay for stock speeds. If you plan on getting a proper motherboard for overclocking, then you'd want a high end air cooler eg. Noctua NH-D15 or Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 or a 240mm or larger AIO water cooler.
