I7 8700k temperature jumping

Good evening folks.
I am experiencing a strange problem with my new I7 8700k.
With default BIOS settings(disabled core enhancement) my CPUs temperature under load( world community grid for example) is jumping from ~75 degrees to 40 for a second and then raises back all the time causing fans to change speed and go up and down. Thermal paste is present in a fair amount and doesn't seem to be the problem as well as the cooler(dark rock pro 3).
Please, help me with an advice.
Build is
Case - corsair 760T
Mobo: ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X HERO
CPU - core I7 8700k
GPU - 1080Ti
RAM - 32 GB corsair vengeance (2 x16 sticks)
PSU - Cooler Master V850
Lots of fans present in the case, really good airflow.
Please assist.

Check your bios settings and voltages. Are you overclocking? Check if your board is pushing +volts on the cores. You have to be under constant load to check if your cpu is performing the way it is meant to, like running a stress test. Spikes are normal by overall and your cpu is hitting high temps by rule. Many are using liquid cooling to overclock them. Any performance issues? Also, what do you mean " a fair ammount of thermal paste". You are not supposed to cover the cpu with paste, i guess you know that already.

P.S.: You may want to have a look at this. Check if your motherboard manufacturer has covered the issue with a bios update.

No, i am not OCing my PC, only thing i did is increase memory frequency from 2133 to 3000 Mhz..
Under AIDA64 for example i still have spikes! Though cpu is dropping-raising from 60 to 80+ and backwards.
I applied the paste to my cooler, not too much not too little, checked the amount after by reseating it - its good, the contact is fine.
I updated bios to the latest version - no changes so far, updated around a week ago.

Also disable MCE to lower down the amount of voltage output to all your cores. asus probably assumed all their consumers will be buying high end coolers and leaving this setting ON for the unsuspecting builder your cooler may not be able to handle an all sync setting for 6 cores. of course you may leave it enabled if you see temps stabilizing.

Updated BIOS, Disabled MCE long ago, checked - still disabled Sinc all cores disabled - left setting as 'per core'
But the jumps are still present :S

No, since CPU is not OC's and using standard intel boost setting - to 4,7 Ghz maximum, but i ve never seen it go above 4.4.

oh youre still running in stock speed even with XMP still disabled? have you tried just enabling it first and see how it goes?
btw the temp spikes are normal and its more obvious with 6 cores. as long asyour overall temps dont go over 80C as read by your asus OC software or the HWmonitor.
lets try letting it run in 4.7. we can try running prime95 torture test. and disbale "run ffts in place". and do the Small FFts test.

Sorry if confused you - XMP is enabled in order to increase the memory clock speed from default 2133 to 3000.
Considering that info - should i execute the action plan that you pointed out above?

I am still running with standart intel boots settings - at 3.7 starting and ending at 4.7 Ghz

So far: at the beginning temps peak to 85-90 dergrees, then in 10 seconds stays stable at around 65-69 degrees depending on the core, temp fluctuation per core is 1-2 degrees, seems good. What do you think? Test ran around 2 hours.
Fans behave normal and keep the RPM's at a fair rate!

i havent personally experienced those "jumps" at all on my asus board. i guess not all boards of the same brand are operated on the same way by default. mine was defaulted to MCE on and i had to manually change it to the non-MCE version. the first time coz i thought i didnt need it. then i reflashed back to the original MCE version and it looks like my system can handle it. during those times i havent experienced weird performance anomalies on my cpu. im sorry i cant help you any more. most likely some other "toms hardy" who has more experience could shed u some light on that. but to me,you may need to adjust your AVX offset and may need to re-apply your cooler with a better thermal paste to get rid of those "jumps" you are mentioning. but like i said its normal for multicores coz not all of them share the same temps. so it looks like jumps to you since it switches the temp of each core on your monitoring tool.

Hi. Did you solve the problem? I'm having similar "issues". 8700k and Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L. I re-applied the cooler and the paste. No changes.

Hi. Did you solve the problem? I'm having similar "issues". 8700k and Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L. I re-applied the cooler and the paste. No changes.

ANSWER: Updating BIOS did the trick for me. I have Asus Z370M Pro4 motherboard. BIOS was updated from 1.40 to 3.10. Temperatures are more than 10 degrees celsius lower in average and they are not spiking as they did before.

i got a similar problem.

i have the same cpu and it jumps in idle from 39-40°C to 70-80°C and in use from 55-60°C to 80-97°!

it never does that before.

My BIOS was 2 versions behind. I updated now and the jumps are not registered in HWMonitor until now. I will keep an eye on that.

Is it possible that BIOS has an effect on that?
