Hello Everyone!

It's been 3 long years since I've been here. I was just getting comfortable at Tom's and started coming here on a daily basis when I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage III Small Cell Lung Cancer. My tumor was inoperable, so I went through 30 radiation treatments & 6 months of chemotherapy. I am happy to say that I am now in remission and slowly but surely working on getting back to normal. Or as they say, "new normal".

I now need a little help from this wonderful and very helpful community. I've had some problems since my treatments...my brain doesn't quite work the way it did before my illness. As a matter of fact, I was absolutely TERRIFIED of attempting to touch my computer. For a while, I had trouble with something as simple as a bluetooth driver. But I'm a lot more comfortable now and I'm starting to remember how to do things again. But I still need help. This is where you guys come in...

I already purchased the first computer but haven't taken it out of the box yet. I wanted to see if there was a better deal on CYBER MONDAY. I'm now thinking maybe there is. Can I get some opinions on which of these 2 systems are the better deal? I am a DEDICATED gamer and also mod my games when I can.

I sent an email to the seller of the 1st system (which I already purchased) asking what type of "NVIDIA GeForce GTX w/4GB dedicated & up to 10GB total video RAM", it has, but they won't respond. So, I don't know what kind of card is inside. The RTX on the 2nd system has me breathing heavy. But I also see that the 2nd system doesn't have a CD/DVD drive and I definitely need one. How the heck or WHERE the heck would I put a DVD drive on a case like that? HELP!

I need to make a decision today. I don't know how long they'll have these prices or how many systems they have available. So, it's game on!

Here they are:

The only "modern" GPU that Nvidia currently makes with 4gb of dedicated Vram is the 1050ti.
The 1060 comes with either 3 or 6gb
The 1070 comes with 8gb.

He may have made a few additions to other parts but not to the video card it came with.

The Lenovo is NOT a good price for what you're getting. The iBuypower is a MUCH better deal and a MUCH better PC for the same price.

FYI: I googled the PC model name "90JB001GUS" and I saw about 5 websites selling the same PC and NONE of them list what video card it is. They only state "4gb of dedicated memory"
I suggest you go directly to Lenovo and look at their offerings.
There are some good items.
It looks like the Lenovo y520 may have only a GTX1050ti card although a GTX1060 card is offered and ould be much better.
The price looks to be much better on the Lenovo site also.
Do some research there.
If you have questions, they should have sales people to give you authoritative answers.
Here is a link to what may be the same pc with gtx1060 graphics for much less:

Don't buy an iBuyPower pc! They are known to use poor quality parts and have bad customer service! You would get the best deal by making your own system but I totally understand your reticence to do so. You can easily get an external USB connected DVD/CD player for around 25 bucks so that shouldn't be an issue.

I've never used these guys but they have really good reviews on Ebay! They make custom systems and I believe they list all the parts they use and you can actually make substitutions as well. http://www.ebaystores.com/Adamant-Custom-Systems-and-Barebone/_i.html?_nkw=gaming&submit=Search&_sid=26422362

I personally have a Ryzen 7 2700x CPU and can say it is very nice and has a great cost/value ratio!

By the way CONGRATS on the remission!!

Umm...did you read my ENTIRE post? And did you check ALL of the specs on these 2 systems?

Firstly, this is not a stock Y520 system. It is custom built by a company that build custom computers. Now, just because it typically comes with a GTX 1050 doesn't mean THIS one will have it. Did you notice that it also has a 5T HDD? AND a 256GB SSD. So, I don't think we can compare the system on Lenovo's site with this one accurately.

I can see that it is sold by another company but the problem is they don't actually list all the specs. They show only stock pics of the exterior and have no info on what any of the parts manufacturers are except for Intel. Nowhere can I see the RAM speed or brand, SSD/HDD brands, GPU brand or really importantly anything about the PSU. In my opinion that is a risky buy.

THAT, is exactly why I never took it out of the box, lol! I felt so uncomfortable not knowing what was inside. I just snatched it up because the price. I emailed them asking for answers and they did NOT respond. This does not bode well for future communication prospects, does it?

So... then I found THIS!:

Thank you SO much! I feel so proud knowing that I beat back a disease like this 😀 The five-year survival rate for lung cancer is 56 percent. Meaning, 56% of survivors live more than 5 years. And that's going to be ME! I'm now in my second year, YAY!!! :bounce:

Btw, I'm perusing the offers from that company on eBay, I'll see what they have and how much they'll customize. But so far, I think their prices are a little high.

And I've already been pricing external DVD drives 😛

Thanks, you were right on all counts!
