I7-8700k vs E5-1650 V4

Hello I’m going to be running (mainly) monothreaded game servers off of either of these CPUs and wonder which would be better. To be exact I’m going to be running Rust servers ,each of the six cores will be assigned to a server.
I understand that the 8700k has better monothreaded performance , but the 1650 has more cache.

These are the reasons i recommend you the i7 over that e5:
1. It is much newer.
2. It consumes less power.
3. It has much higher frequencies.
So get the i7, the cache difference won't be noticeable.

I run a rust server off an old HP DL380G6 with server 2008 R2 dual x5570 & 32GB of ram. The Rust server itself runs in HyperV with 4 virtual cores and 16GB of ram allocated and it seems to do just fine.

I think a 8700k would do just fine.
