This might be a really dumb question, but are you able to use the i7 8700k with DDR3? My mobo only supports ddr3 and lga 1151 so I was wondering if you are able to or can you only use DDR4 with it?
Officially no, if the memory controller can support the legacy ddr3, as a proof of concept you can bios hack certain h110 board with ddr3 rams to ru. Coffeelake, but the power delivery on these boards are so bad and likely you will set the motherboard on fire. As proof of concept you can try. But daily system no, not worth the effort and risk.
