I7 920 Idling high

I put my system together yesterday and booted it up. At stock cpu speed my temps are running a little high. I see idling ranging from 32-44 but mostly stays around high 30's. At load it runs mid 40's to mid 50's with 4 prime torture tests running simultaneously. The room that I have the case in is relatively hot (like 80 degrees F) but I don't think it should be idling this high anyway. I have my cpu cooler set in a push-pull config horizontally taking air from the top fan on the case and pushing it down. I am relatively new to building computers and computer temperatures so I was a bit worried. For instance, if these are stock speed temps, how could I ever OC this machine? Is there a possibility that I installed the thermal paste incorrectly? I put like a 2 small grains of rice on the cpu and spread it out evenly with a rubber glove. Thanks to anyone that can help me.

The Noctua fan should be preferably blowing air out the back of the case if possible.
Or it should be blowing air out the top of the case.

I follow the directions on the Arctic Silver website for a Quad Core Intel computer.
A line of paste. See the pictures and directions.
Your way of doing it is good also.

The temps are fine. On my Core i7 920 CO stepping on a P6T Deleuxe w/OC Palm, it is currently OC to 3.65ghz and temps at idle is mid to high 30's celius. I am also using the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXTreme with dual (Push/Pull) fans. Even when I had the OC up to 3.85ghz my temps at idle was high30's to low 40's celius.

You can OC the P6T to 3.0ghz by just going 160 BCLK or 3.2ghz with 170 BCLK with leaving core voltage at Auto. Asus x58 boards are so easy to OC.

Your temps are fine, they are a LOT hotter than the last chips. My massive WC rig idles at 36-39C in 80F room. I'm at stock 3.3 on a 965. I load at about 55C.

^5 +1 what Yoosty and Conumdrum said. You are actually doing better than the Intel thermal specifications. Congratulations! Don't worry! Be happy!

Wait..... You have the top fan blowing air into the case?

Let me picture this. Most cases have fans in the front blowing in, maybe a fan on the panel blowing in, and the bac/top fans blowing out.

Usually you want the CPU fans to blow the hot air towards a rear/top fan that pulls the heat out.

Please rethink your case airflow pattern and how you place your CPU coolers fans.

Yeah that was a mistake. The top fan and back fan WERE blowing out. But I set the cpu fan to blow down. I didn't know this until I tested it with a piece of paper. I replaced all of the fans so that the CPU fan is blowing the air out the back. Seems to have lowered the temps by a couple degrees. Thanks everyone
