I7 920 OC help

Hi, im trying to OC my i7 920 D0 stepping.



Could someone give me the right numbers to getting a stable OC to 3.2ghz? I would like to use Turbo if i can benefit from it. I tried OC and i entered these values:
PCIE Bus: 100
Clock Mult: x20
Rate: 166

In turbo i made it so it would uncore to x21.

I then ran Intel Burn Test and i never got hotter than 72c. Although the performance was nice and smooth, it kept saying it was not stable.

1.38v is not stock voltage. uber is about right, you'd probably only need 1.2v or so.

What ram do you have? If you have 1600MHz ram and your memory multiplier is at 10, you were overclocking your RAM and that's probably causing the instability.

Try this...

BCLK = 160
CPU multiplier = 21x
Memory multiplier = 10x if you have 1600MHz rated RAM (8x if you have 1333Mhz, etc)
vCore = 1.2 (Try 1.25 if 1.2 doesn't work. after it's stable, slowly lower it until you find the lowest stable setting and back off a notch or 2)

Just for reference... Most 920 D0's and 930's would run 3.2 at 1.15v-1.2v.

Turn vDroop off and Turbo Mode off.

*If none of this works, you might have to raise your IOH voltage a tad, or PLL voltage to 1.875.

Well in Bios, i can adjust the Vcore but next to it, it shows 1.982. Also, i cannot get the multiplier to x21 unless i use uncore. When i do this, my mult will step down to x12 like it using speed step but i cannot find that feature anywhere.

Also, my motherboard has this bios update to where i can actually use 6gb but its currently using 4gb. When i try to install the update it says not compatible to my 64-bit system. Thing is, there is no download selection for 64-bit. My motherboard is the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R.

I will try to set those values you gave me.

I don't know whats 1.982... just set CPU voltage, core voltage (whatever it says in your BIOS), to 1.2v. And what do you mean unless you "use" uncore? That includes the memory of your chip, you shouldn't be altering your uncore multiplier in your case... changing your BCLK should alter your uncore to the appropriate settings for you I think.

Do you have the 64-bit version of Windows?

I got it working now. When im not doing anything it clocks around 2ghz with x12 cblck. When i run Intel Burn it goes to 3.5ghz with x21. Never reaches 75c.

Ahh, good ole' CS! I wish they'd release a new source engine and hence a new CS.
