I7 920 video editing build

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: most likely early january

BUDGET RANGE: looking to stay below $2000, though I am not opposed to stretching it a bit

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: video editing (use vegas right now, will probably be switching to premiere or avid), other apps like after effects, photoshop, cubase, could possibly be doing some 3d modeling and animation work - though not positive on that. I also game quite a bit, but as long as the system can run most games at high detail and 60+ fps, I really am not worried much about that. Other than that, just occasional movie watching and basic usage.

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: keyboard, mouse, monitor (picking up an Asus 24" VW246H before I get the rest of the system), OS (Win 7 64 bit)

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: US

PARTS PREFERENCES: would prefer ATI for the video card, as nvidia in comparison right now seems to have a terrible price to performance ratio

OVERCLOCKING: looking to do some overclocking on cpu (half the reason for going with 920 over 860) and potentially gpu as well, nothing too extreme though

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: would like potential for this to futureproof (ability to just drop a second card in to upgrade my gfx)

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: am mainly undecided on whether or not to spend the money on an SSD right now for a boot drive, and other concern being should I wait for a motherboard with sata and usb 3.0 to come out to fully futureproof. Also, have heard Avid Media Composer is not really compatible with ATI cards, not sure if anyone can confirm/deny or offer suggestions on that.

I see the spinpoints recommended a lot here over the WD blacks, why is that? was under the impression that they weren't as fast (from other hearsay)

I've seen in a lot of other forums that Media Composer doesn't work well and many problems happen when using ATI. The Nvidia Quadro FX 580 is a good card for video editing that works with Avid. It is at the top of their entry lvl but beats the mid-lvl FX 1700 for half the price. It will be more than capable for your editing but as far as gaming I'm not sure whether or not it will help with that. Also even though Nvidia Gaming cards have almost Identical components the drivers hender them from working well with Media Composer
