hello, i have been a long a time reader and am sure i have read just about everything i could possibly squeeze into my head regarding the specific components and settings of my setup. Heres my problem, i can get a solid stable overclock to 3.465 ghz with only 1.21 cpu voltage. Thats a BCLK of 165 with 21x multi. As soon as i up the BCLK just one point to 166, i crash instantly upon opening Prime 95. It is not a heat issue, With HT on, i my max core temp is 67 degrees C. Giving it a small voltage bump , like 1 or 2 notches brings me enough to raise my BCLK to 172. Same temps. I have also tried setting the cpu multi down and have gotten the BCLK to 220 with no problem. So now , i have tried several different voltage combos to use a 173 BLCK. Even, went upto 1.4vcore and 1.35 qpi and upon doing that, i get the continuous reboot cycle... This really freaked me out. So i hard shut it down, waited a moment, let it reboot and it loaded the secondary BIOS . I have my MEM multi set at 6x to keep that out of the equation. I am pretty new to this, but have a somewhat decent understanding. So basically, how can i get a decent OC with below stock voltages, but cant even reach 3.7 with increasing the voltages by such a large degree. I only intend to reach 4.0ghz to get there for the sake of seeing my own cpu's capability, but not leaving there. I know there is alot of info i have left out, but if we could just start with this and work our way to get some ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have read so much , i just now finally decided its time to post and hopefully find someone with similar components and or problems. Thanks Again! ~dan.

Haven't seen this one before, but just read. I have been doing exactly as instructed. Very nice easy to understand article by the way. Could be my memory as in defective sticks, or RAM settings/timings. Ram voltage is at 1.64, gigabyte wont allow 1.65 , so i would have to go 1.64 or 1.66, and i know 1.65 is max safe. Anyone ever have a similar problem? I never really was able to find good direct examples of other bios voltages settings such as ICH and some others, not sure if it matters, but according to the guides it dont look like it. Thanks a mill Overshocked

I just think its so strange that i can run 100 % solid stable with such a low voltage, but as soon as i up the blck by 1, it does that crazy continuous reboot cycle that i've heard about before...

Yes, actually i have tried multiple combos, including the 180 blck, reducing the multiplier and upping the BCLK. again, i even upped the voltage to 1.4 just to ge the 173. no dice. Its when i did this it did the continuous reboot thing until it loaded the secondary bios. What other voltages do i need to consider, most guides only explain the vcore, qpi and the like.

check this out, me and my brother have IDENTICAL setups, i was just playin around in his bios, did everything as i was told, but bumped up his voltage from 1.26 to 1.29 and BCLK from 165 to 170. Now his is doing the endless reboot til it goes to the secondary bios.

ok that really freaked me out. it finally loaded up . gonna set everything back to how it was and forget about it. What could possibly not be right? Well, a bunch of things i bet. how could his and mine be doing the SAME THING! i could really use some serious help now seeing his is doing the same. PLEASE. OK ANOTHER PROBLEM NOW. backed his back to 165 , no voltage change, and continuous reboot.

we have NEVER had a problem with the 165 BLCK with NO voltage changes. This is very strange. I've been googling all over the place, but for now im leaving my brothers at stock. This is ridiculous.

That is not always the answer. Do you still need help?

I have a Gigabyte UD4P and its fairly similar to yours and at least the BIOS is. When you have set DRAM timing selectable to manuel and then set CAS settings to what ever you are running, did you remember to set the Uncore frequenzy to twice your memory speed and +1?

If you are running BCLK 133 with x10 memory multiplier you need to set it to 2666 and one higher.

That could be your problem because when you change BCLK you change Uncore frequenzy too. Also I see you have some OCZ RAM. Those sometimes needs to be running QPI 1.35 and memory voltage 1.65. Because you do not have that option in BIOS it needs to be 1.37 and 1.67. It is possible that that is not your problem, but I have some platinum OCZ 1600 MHZ 7-7-7-24 and those needs this much too run when overclocked.

Tell me what happens when you change BCLK to 180 and then memory multiplier to what ever fits 1333 MHz and remember to set Uncore frequenzy to twice + 1l. Try up the CPU voltage to like 1.375 in BIOS, QPI to 1.37 and RAM voltage to 1.67.

You do not have to worry about these voltages because I run them 24/7 without a problem and when you get it stable you can try to see what can be changed.

Good luck

Hey Poul, thanks for looking and trying to assist me. Well, i had my machine running perfectly for about 2 months now. everything on auto, except a slightly lowered vcore and mem voltage set to 1.64. It did it a few times right when i a built it, but would only cycle on off once, then turn on and stay on. Could the memory timings be a factor. The REALLY strange thing is, like i was saying earlier was , i tried a couple things on my brothers machine and it did the same thing. only i put his BCLK to 170 , it did infinite reboot, so i backed it down to exactly what it was set to before which included a 165 BLCK , and now its infinite rebooting.

i will try the 180 blck and the settings u recommended when i get home. Im not worried about the voltage, i know i've seen people go 1.5 and up . Thanks again. Really, thank you.

You really need to set everything to manual. First of all, if everything is set to auto, your memory timings will not be correct and your RAM speed will show as 1066 by default. If you have 1333 MHz you need to set that manually and then change the timings to what ever you have ie 8-8-8-24. I would think that is your memory timings with that brand and speed.

When you overclock to like 170 BCLK because everything is set to auto your Uncere frequenzy will not be correct and prevent you from booting. It needs to be twice the memory speed +1, just like I explained above.

Try with BCLK 180 like I described above and set Uncore accordingly to what ever RAM speed you are running with that overclock. If its maybe 1333Mh I think the correct Uncore would be like x21. What ever fits the twice memory speed +1.

Because you overclock on Auto your timings will be all wrong and your memory speed. You need to do this manually.

Let me know what happens when you try what i suggested with the Uncore.

ok, now i got both pc's back to the 165 blck safely and very cool running. im gonna do as told as we speak. with the 165 blck , it takes my mem speed to 1320 i believe. let me try your suggestions and will repost. again, i cannot thank you enough. not many people would take the time like you gentleman and gigabytes support us poor at best. also , what do u think of a bios update, im currently using f3, and f5 or f6 is available. i think the main change to the newest is updated cpu microcode .

ok, with an 8x mem multi i get 1440mhz on the ram using a 180 blck, this equals to 2880 uncore at 16x or 3060 at 17x, which would be the twice + 1. i think this is the closest i can get to what were looking for. qpi link speed... makes a difference?

reset using the optimized defaults. ok, i got my bros machine upto 160, rebooted and switched to 165, now the bios screen flashes (when u press del ) and keeps saying dvi no signal, but not rebooting like it was. wtf....

hey shocker, what type of case/cpu fans u use. intake and exhaust what models if u dont mind me asking... ok past the no dvi signal . have it running at the 165 blck with 1.26v ,the manual timings set 7 7 7 20 and what u explained above, set uncore twice the mem multi plus 1. And it doing the double restart again like when i originally built it. powers on off on .
