I7 930 good overclock(3.8~4.0 ghz) cooler

hi, need some help here...

im going to get an i7 930 pretty soon so i would like to oc it to about 3.8~4.0 ghz.

That said can you recommend a cpu cooler?

ive been looking to the h50 and h70 from corsair but since im getting the nzxt phantom case
i will have to take out the top fan and i wont have the ability to assemble the 230 mm side pannel fan
so i would like to have other air/ simple water(simple assembly like h50 and h70) cooler options available.

I actually wouldn't recommend closed water cooling like the H50/H70 or Coolit Eco kind of cooling. 3.8-4.0ghz really doesn't need water cooling. At there prices, they pretty much equal the best air coolers, which easily cool 4.0ghz of a 930. The only thing is, what ram do you use, clearance is sometimes an issue between cooler to ram. The Noctua NH-D14 is probably one of the best air coolers out there. It's price, but great, the only thing... ITS HUGE, the clearance of ram is what this coolers negative is. Another good cooler is the Hyper 212+ (budget cooler) at 30$ it performs fantastic. Stick two delta/scythe 3000rpm fans with 100+ cfm and its a beast, though loud.

NH-U12P SE2 is a very good cooler too, however it is very expensive as well like the NH-D14 see review about Hyper 212+

Another good cooler is Thermalright Venomous X (or X-RT), the X-RT gives you AM3 brackets but also a quiet thermalright fan. I personally love the Venomous X, but ya know.... I would choose this, as two thermalright fans on it make it better than a NH-D14 but also the clearance is so much better. Also the two fan dBa level is basically the same as the NH-D14 as well. Comes with 2 very nice fans. I have an I7 920, over clocked to 3.8GHz, and temps are around 61C with prime95 running.

I have 6GB of RAM, and the slot nearest to the CPU is empty, there was no problem fitting the fan on my ASUS Rampage Extreme II Mother board.

The fans fit in a pull/push configuration and vent towards back of case, where I have another fan pushing air out of case. Has a great 'engine block' look to it and a cool light strip running down the middle of it that changes colour (red/blue/purple) at the touch of a button on the top.

Check out the Scythe Mugen B defintely one of the best air coolers available.

With the purchase of additional 120mm fans, it can hold up to 4 fans for a 2-way push pull...not that you would actually need four fans...one additional fan for a single push-pull, let alone just the single fan that comes with it, should handle any overclocking...

Ran 8 threads of Prime95 (maxed all 8 cores at 100% usage) on my D0 920 with just the single fan that comes with it and overclocked to 4GHz and temps never went above 63C.

Highly recommend the Scythe Mugen B.

I just got a Coolermaster 690-II Advanced case with a intel i7 930 & a antec frio cpu overclock cooler, things a beast, no problems here whatsoever, have safely oc'ed to from stock 2.80mhz to 3.20mhz easily.

The members have suggested some really good coolers in regards to cooling performance and the ability to handle a 4Ghz o'c.
Some are much quieter then others.Some cost much more then others.
Personally i prefer quiet.
Anything by Thermalright or Noctua is going to come with quiet fans.
If you choose a Prolimatech or a Venomous X that don't include fans then Scythe or Thermalright provides the best fan solutions.
And yes i agree the best lower budget solution is definitely a Mugen 2.

im looking at all the coolers and i think the coolermaster v6 gt seems pretty cool aspect wise and has pretty good temperatures,
but first ill get the new case and then see wich one of these u all suggested performs and looks better. :]

my budget is about 60 75 dollars so i can pretty much choose almost any of the aftermarket coolers around

but still im aiming for a silent and powerfull cooler (dont know if the v6 gt is like that but i guess ill just have to test it with my system)

In regards to quiet performance the V6GT is one of the loudest on the market a good 10 decibels louder then most others like Noctua or Thermalright.
Cooling wise it's one of the best.

You'll have no problems with any coolers and that ram it's only 33mm tall.

I know this might be late, but I say the thermalight 120 Extreme Rev C

It is soooo cool. It is big and can take two 120mm fans (push/pull) and is an easy and quick install.

It is an 6 pipe heavily finned aluminium HS that has crushed my temps on Prime95 to the low 70s @ 4.0Ghz on a 930 while running 3dMark simultaneously.

It clears all RAM as it doesn't overhang the RAM (leastwise not on an ASUS P6X58D-E), and in my case the back 120mm fan lines up right on the back 120mm case exhaust fan.

It should fit most cases too, as I've a smaller mid tower (cooler master 310B)
