I am starting to have problems running games on high settings, so the real question will be: If i got a GTX 770 or a Radeon r-290 would it be pointless with my CPU or should I just build a new rig?

Specs.

CPU: Intel Core i7-930 Bloomfield Quad-Core 2.8GHz LGA 1366 130W
MOBO: EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX X58 SLI LE Intel Motherboard
Memory:CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Graphics card: EVGA 570 1280mb

I have an aftermarket cooler on my CPU but never really tried overclocking. my case has 2x 240mm fans (not sure in the number, but they are big) and 1x 120mm fan on the back.

So here is the question: I recently purchases a Radeon r-290 I was planning on building me a new gaming rig to house it, but I started thinking. "would this graphics card let me play these games on high settings for a few more months with my current box?"

Currently, I can play any game in high settings, sometimes medium. Witcher 2 ran pretty well with shadows and stuff off. The Forest however, the grass only shows up about 5 feet infront of me so it looks dumb - no lag though.

got a 1857 on a passmark benchmark test :|

I don't get the question? it starts with "if I bought" then it is "I already bought"??

is your CPU maxing out when you have low FPS? you should not have an issue playing on high with a 290. if you bought the 290 but are asking about the 570.... WHY??

plug that 290 in and see what you get. no reason to wait

:p Well, while writing this I had a bid on Ebay for a 290, I won it after posting this.

Trying to decide if its even worth sticking it in my current system and sticking this 290 where my 570 is, or just biting the bullet and get me a new setup. I am going with the new i7 devils canyon if im getting a new one ;)

i read it as you already bought the 290. but if you just bought it... when it shows up plug it in and see what you get. Lol

your current CPU will probably bottleneck it here and there but you can wait to upgrade the cpu and crank up the gpu in the meantime
