I7 940 for $300, Used, a good deal?

My friend is buying the new Hex core for his system and has a I7 940 he wants to sell me for $300.
Is this good for an 8 month old used chip. I dont think he has ever overclocked it because he doesn't know how.
I'm going to buy a mobo and ram and stick this thing in my Haf 922! And keep my 955 black system for a back up or sell it.
