Hello guys. So i'm finally going to upgrade my PC, i think my CPU has an upgrade overdue. Now i mainly, infact only use my PC for gaming. I'm going to upgrade my CPU and because i don't have a LGA 1151 motherboard, i will have to change that and the RAM too.

My current PC specs:
CPU: i7 4770 @ 3.4GHz
GPU: GTX 1080
RAM: 16 GB

Specs i'm looking to upgrade:

CPU: i7 9700 or i9 9900K
GPU: I will not change it for now, so it's GTX 1080
RAM: Probably 16 or 32 GB DDR4
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Pro Wifi

I never overclock my CPU or GPU, so i know i don't need a K processor, but in the market i'm looking there's either i7 9700 non-K or i9 9900K available, i bought i7 4770 back in 2013 or 2014 and it has served me well for 6 or so years, with GPU upgrades. So if i upgrade my CPU for now i'm not looking to go for a CPU upgrade for at least 4 years.

So only for gaming, shall i go for i7 9700 or i9 9900K? One more question guys, is my GTX 1080 going to bottleneck either of those CPUs?

Thanks a lot.

Nice, but do you think my GTX 1080 will bottleneck the i9 9900K?

Currently, any GPU less than the 2080Ti partially limits the performance of the 9900K. (to what degree is debatable, as not every 9900K buyer gets a 2080TI, or, vice versa) The 9900K has potential for future GPU upgrades, where as many weaker CPUs might not fare quite as well....

If you are still moderately happy with gaming perrformance now, I'd consider waiting and perhaps see what performance the 10700K offers at less money...(if saving the $100 or so is no biggie, the 9900K rocks now, and will likely still 'rock' for a few years; it is one of the few CPUs with potentially the staying power of the old i7-2600K)

Nice, thanks for this detailed reply man. I guess i'm still a month or two into upgrading, so i will probably wait and see the 10th gen CPUs, if it's workable i'll probably go for it, otherwise i guess i will go for i9-9900K and later on upgrade my GPU as well.
