I've been reading through dozens of threads about thermal paste being pre-applied or applying your own and it all seems to be that pre-applied is fine but i'm not finding much on overclocking with it and the differences. I have arctic silver 5 from my last build leftover and I ordered the thermaltake floe riing 360mm AIO water cooler because I don't fully trust myself to do a custom loop.

My main question is, since I plan to OC all cores to 5.0ghz or luckily higher, will using after-market thermal paste such as arctic 5 help with my temps? This CPU runs very very hot in comparison to the previous chips. The AIO I have has pre-applied paste and im sure its fine for everyday use, but if I OC will using arctic 5 give me more room temp wise?

If the paste doesn't matter, will the pre-applied paste amount be fine or should I do it myself to make sure I put on the right amount? I heard doing it correctly (The perfect amount) makes or breaks the application.

Its only marginal when it comes to paste formulation. And yes there is a perfect thickness. Too thin it doesn't transfer, too thick it insulates. I use a plastic card to smear on top of the processor to about 1/2 the thickness of a piece of regular ink-jet paper. The holding force between the heatsink and cpu is just as critical as paste application.
