Hello,

so I've got new CPU it's i7 9700K with Bequiet! Dark rock pro 4 and artic mx-5 thermal compound. Till today I was running integrated GPU intel uhd630 and my temps in games were high 50's and it almost never went past 60c degrees. Today I got a GTX 1080 Ti and while I was playing Rainbow Six Siege my CPU went over 80c degrees. How can I keep it cooler than that? I know that the CPU cooler is more than enough, I guess the problem lies in intel's adaptive voltage right? Because I tried to set it manually, like on my previous i7 6700k when I had the same issues. So what kinda voltage is fine to keep it under 60c degrees under load and no performance loss? And how exactly do I do this on Z390 Aorus Elite, because it's complicated as hell. I've already tried something and I didn't know how to undervolt it.

Change the fan curve of the heatsink higher, you can do this in the bios and there should be a tab for it. set the fan(s) to atleast 50% to start and see how it is and you can do what ever you want after that. If this does not work you probably installed it wrong or not enough thermal paste.

Cooler is not mounted wrong and i applied enough of thermal paste. Problem lies with motherboard itself and it’s overvolting my cpu. It runs on stock speeds but it has vcore set to 1.25v but in cpu-z and hw monitor when under load it even gets past 1.3v.

That's not that far off an expected vcore with turbo boost enabled. That cooler isn't one I'd of recommended for the 9700k/9900k

Your new GPU either changed the airflow in the case or it just made your cpu work harder so now it's running full speed. Honestly even at "stock speeds" (that thing s massively oced at stock speeds) it can draw 200w during stress testing.

No offense, but you don't know what you're talking about. This CPU cooler is rated at 250w TDP and it has dual tower with 2 fans. This cooler and noctua nh-d15 are the same at performance as 280mm AIO's. The problem was with intel's stock adaptive voltage. It's running way higher than it should it gets over 1.3v. You can OC'it to 4.8@1.20-1.25v. Now I just dropped the voltage down to 1.180 and set it to manual and it fixed the problem. No I don't get over 60c in stress tests or games and it's so silent you barely hear it.

You do realize the stock settings have to work with the literal worst chip they sell as a given processor that's why it's always too high for 99.9% of chips.

Also no the pro 4 isn't on the same level as the pro 3 or dh15 it's still a solid cooler it's just quieter than the pro 3

Ofc its on the same lvl as nhd15 lol 1-2 degrees its hotter but still on the same lvl

Looking at your case youre probably lacking some airflow. Are all fans connected the right way? like maybe you installed the rear fan backwards or something. I use i7 9700k with Dark Rock Pro 4 in Meshify C. Found it stable with AVX on at 1.31 V without AVX 1.25 V. Max temp after 45 mins of Small FFTs with AVX on were 78 Max. In games the cpu never goes above 65 C because that's where I have my cooler fans go 100%. No matter if its BF V, Anthem or RE 2

they probably would go even lower if it wasn't for my 290x running at 78 C in the case with 90 % fan speed 😀 😀

Also that 1.180 V you found "stable" try some tests with AVX on, see if its stable.. It doesn't necessarily need to crash but when one of your cores goes 0% usage while others are 100% your system is not stable.

I dont think your doing anything wrong. I think some people are getting hotter cpus than others. I returned mine because it was hitting 85 degrees in apex. I returned the chip, bought a better case for airflow instead of aesthetics, and got an h100i platinum. Hoping
My chip stays cooler when i buy the new one.
