Hi guys,

I'm building a desktop to game and surf on the web. The GPU will probably be a Radeon 5700 XT.

The processor i7 9700 is U$20 cheaper than the 9700k.
The motherboard Gigabyte H310M A 2.0 is U$14 cheaper than Gigabyte H370M D3H.

Does really worh paying extra for k version and H370M?

Probably all motherboards nowadays has turbo boost tecnology, right?

I dont plan to overclock processor or motherboard and will get 2x 8gb RAM (total 16gb) that i dont plan to upgrade also.

The H310M A 2.0 does NOT support intel 9th gen CPUs (maybe with a bios update it can but not out of the box) so get the H370M D3H.

Turbo boost is related to the CPU throttling up when it can to improve performance and is unrelated to the motherboard

If you don't intend to overclock get the 9700

Happy first post good luck on the build!

If your going with a locked Intel 9th gen then I would get a B365 board as they support the 9th gen CPU's. I would probably get a budget range CPU cooler as well as they can run warm. For memory I'd pair it with a 2x8gb kit @2666mhz which is the fastest the B365 boards can support.

That being said you could save a considerable amount of money by just going with the AMD Ryzen 3600 & B450 motherboard (either updated BIOS or MSI MAX versions which support 3rd gen right out of the box). Also the stock cooler is sufficient so no need to buy another cooler.

Yup you're right i totally missed the chipset issue my bad
Technically it is supported with a newer BIOS however even with it I wouldn't even bother as I think the vrms on those budget motherboards may struggle to power the 9700 properly. Even the B365 may be pushing it quite a bit but those are the only (and few) boards that support 9th gen out of the box besides more expensive Z390 boards.

I still think the Ryzen 3600 is the better choice overall price to performance. Plus with 3rd gen Ryzen they pretty much clocked them as high as they'll go which is why they have limited overclocking potential but it's good for those who don't care to overclock.

I agree with Ryzen being a VERY compelling option but like to work within the desires of the thread creator so lets roll with intel for a second.

What about an I5 9500?

thanks for the answer :)

Thats weird, according to specs it does, but maybe like u said, they probably did an upgrade.

A waste of money. Fine for older games, but struggles with newer games.

A 9700k is far superior.

Any 300 series board not b365 or z390 may need a bios updated for 9500 support. Plus the vrm concerns are real.

Either b365 for i7 9700 (dont use the inadequate stock cooler included with this cpu) or 9700k and z390.

I would be all for ryzen.

Don't know why they don't sell B365 mobo at microcenter.

I did considered a ryzen 7 but the bundle with the cooler it's 20 or 30 bucks more than intel.
The thing is I do have a 1156 cooler at home that im not using and I read that it can be used on 1151 mobos also, seems the holes has same size.

The best price to performance 9th gen i5 is the 9400F. It's a solid choice however I'm not too familiar with thread creator so it it prefers more cores then the i7 may be optimal.

well i recommend a r5 3600 or 3600x with a b450 mb and save money for something else in the build there's a very very small difference between the i7 and the r5 3600 in single core the i7 wins by a little perfomance and the r5 3600 wins in multi core by a small perfomance so they are literally the same
