I currently have an i5 7600k that is causing me trouble with many games and will lock up constantly if I even try to tab out of a game. I also just bought a 5700xt, so would it make more sense to jump to amd for pcie 4.0?

Well I wasn't going to do it completely for that reason but it was a bonus. I just want something that is overkill for playing a game and being able to tab out without massive lag

The 9700K will be a little faster, and PCI-e 3.0 vs. 4.0 is not yet a factor, save for in recent Hardware UInboxed testing in a VRAM limited 5500XT (4 GB variant), and, even then all it did was reduce the deficit to the 9900K somewhat...

The 5700XT will be fastest on a 9900K/KS, with the 9700K slightly behind, generally...; the 3600 and 3700X/3800X are quite close behind the 9700K in most games...

I would say whatever is cheaper performance in gaming and normal desktop is about equivelent. Currently pcie4 is not well used do dont consider that too much. And im giessing something else is wrong with your system rather than your cpu. I would hold off on upgrading till you have diagnosed your issue

That has previously little to do with the CPU,even on games that hit 100% all the time tabbing out has nothing to do with it,it's the memory management, mem compression and page file swapping that makes tabbing take more time.
Interesting, what would you advise starting with to fix this?

I think if I do intel it will probably be the 9700k but I'm not sure just yet

Unless the 3800X is the same price as the 3700X it is not worth paying extra for as performance is nearly identical in benchmarks and you won’t tell any difference in the real world.

I was recently in the same position, 3700X vs 9700k for 1440p 144Hz gaming rig. I went with the 3700X, I just felt it’s a better long term option. Both are excellent from the reviews so I’m sure you would be happy with either.

Yeah after looking at it more this seems to be the smarter move so if I go that route I will go with the 3700x for sure.

I also have an Intel i5 7600k and I am pretty sure that I will upgrade it to a Ryzen 7 3700x. I also have a GTX 1060 6GB which im gonna upgrade in the future. Do you think I should upgrade my GPU or CPU for better performance in Fortnite? I will also be swapping my motherboard and RAM. This will be my new upgrades https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dhkWnH

I dont know what will improve my performance the most, as I have heard Fortnite is a cpu intensive game. I play on 1600x900 with all settings on low. I get 200+ fps but when there is a lot of players fighting my fps drops to 90-120. I play on 144hz monitor aswell. I think this problem is my cpu but im not sure.

Any help picking my upgrades?

I think the 1060 6G should be good for a while still so if it were me I would go with the 3700x before considering a card, that is most likely going to be what I have to do
