Question i7 9700k w/ 1060 vs i5 w/ 2070 / RAM/MOBO Upgrade

I use my PC to stream while playing games like Counter-Strike, Rainbow6, I'm looking for better performance in those games with and without streaming.

With my CURRENT build:

i5 3470 @ 3.6Ghz

Gigabyte GA-H77

RTX 2070 +100 Core +700 Mem 116% Power

PSU - Corsair 650watt

8GB DDR3 1666Mhz



I can fully refund the RTX 2070 for $650 and I'm looking to reinvest it into parts that may give better performace.

I'm thinking of taking that $650 and getting:

i7 9700k - 379.99 USD

Z390 - 129.99 USD

DDR4 G Skill Ripjaws 3200Mhz 69.99 USD

To add to my system, replacing older parts.
Should I do that and I'll save about $20 or what's everyone's recommendations? It doesn't have to specially be the Z390, Ripjaws, or an i9 specifically, if you think I should get something that differs, please explain why you think that'd be better?

Personally I’d wait a few weeks and check out the new Ryzen 3000 series. Chances are you will get more for your money and if nothing else Intel are rumoured to be dropping their price in response.

I'm more on the side of Intel, I'm not in too much need of multi tasking, I prefer the higher clockspeeds and it's personal preference to me to go for Intel because last few AMD chips I've had I had issues with ending up with refunds, replacing and such.

It’s up to you but the 3000 series is looking to remove Intel’s IPC lead and speed advantages while the newer motherboards offer standards not yet available for Intel.

Anyway on the Intel route I just wouldn’t use an i5, in some games the 6 threads are already heavily pushed. The 9700k & 9900k are the way to go especially as you want to stream.

Yeah the setup I listed with the 9700k, DDR4 Ripjaws, and Z390 perfectly fit my budget if I returned the 2070, (just under 650$) it's all available for pickup for me tomorrow at a bestbuy, but would you think my GPU would need an upgrade soon?

I assume you are running 1080p, is this 60Hz, 144Hz or other?

The 1060 6gb is still a strong card at 1080p and if you want high FPS in gpu heavy games this still can be achieved by lowering settings. It really comes down to how important running very high settings is to you.

I play CSGO, Rainbow6, and mostly Competitive games @ 144hz, So not having my games on high settings doesn't really bother me, just enough to stream, while playing at 144fps min. And render videos well. I don't play many demanding games

Then a 1060 is fine, hopefully you have the 6gb version.
