i7 Cores and Threads and Clock Speed

Hello,
I always thought that i7 processors were like inside 1 physical core are 2 logical cores so there would be in total 8 cores that computer registers (like an i7 4790k, i7 6700k...).
I would appreaciate if You could explain it briefly or paste a link that explains it well and also do threads work at the same speed as the physical cores, e.g. is thread's clock speed half of the physical's -> if you have cpu clocked at 4 GHz does that mean your threads work at 2 GHz?

Threads don't have clock speed. It's a logical construct not physical.
Only physical cores have clock speed.
And with hyper-threading one physical core services 2 threads simultaneously.
It means that physical core cycles consist of some thread #1 cycles and some thread #2 cycles and those cycles are distributed dynamically.
