I7 gaming build

Hi guys,
I'd appreciate some thoughts on this i7 build.


APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Within one week

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, Excel

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, Mouse

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: None, but have a Microcenter nearby for the $200 i7 920 deal

PARTS PREFERENCES: by brand or type: prefer Nvidia gpu but open to others

OVERCLOCKING: Yes

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Maybe, at a later date.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I'd like to keep the cost around $1400ish. Still need to add a DVD burner.

Don't get a GTX 280. They run an old architecture, they aren't any faster than an OC'd GTX 275, and they are being discontinued so you won't be able to SLI later.

Instead of the super OC GPU, I would recommend going with a regular 275 and OCing it yourself. You may not be able to hit the exact speeds as that superclocked version, but any difference should be minor. You should be able to get a lot more bang for your buck

Don't forget about disc drives. I know that many people don't include them in their build to be criticized, but I just wanted to make sure that you hadn't forgotten about them.

Also, do more research into the case and whether the Noctua HSF and 275 will fit the case. When I built my i7 computer, I was aiming for a Antec 902 mid-tower, but my 285's (same length as the 275) were too long and I had to go for a full-size case.

I have the same MB and HSF as those, and I recommend both.

The Noctua will fit in either case. The GPU's will fit in the 690, idk about the Lian Li.

damn that case is expensive, over here in the UK, it's big brother is only £60 (~$100)

for a $200 case, you should be getting a CM ATSC 840
