I7 Motherboard with PCI

Hi,

I'm upgrading a homestudio computer but I'm getting a bit confused as the last time I built my computer was 8 years ago and things have moved on.

I want an i7 processor but I need a board that will support my m-audio 1010lt soundcard. A lot of the boards i have seen have pci-e slots but no pci slots (from what I can see).

Can anyone suggest a good motherboard that will suit my needs?

which i7 are you looking at buying ? are you planning on using any other parts from your old computer, or will you be buying new ram too, where in the world are you.

if you have a kaby lake 7th gen CPU then you're out of luck because intel dropped support for the old PCI bus with these CPU's.

In all honesty, for what you are using the computer for, I think you would be better off with something like an AMD RyZen R7 1700, 8 cores, 16 threads, motherboards with PCI slots are easy to get and they are proven to walk all over Intel in the work station environment.

with 16gb of DDR4 ram and an R7 1700 CPU, would be lightening fast.

I'm not 100% sure which i7. Its probably a bit overkill for my needs so probably cheaper end

I'll be buying ram to suit. Ill probably go 16gb

Only other components id be carrying over would be a sata ii drive and most of my outboard stuff is usb 2.0 so I assume thats compatible with usb 3.

The main thing is the sound card. Its not the greatest but my studio is set up around it.

It's a problem we all go through, having to get new gear when it's time to upgrade our PC's.

I've got a few old soundcards that I can no longer use ( staring at my Delta 44).

Drivers are also an issue at times.

Well yes, I can't go any further than Windows 7 so this is inevitably going to become an issue but rearranging all my outboard gear is a huge wiring job.

I think the r7 solution posted above will help me for the time being and give me enough power for newer vsts.

Just check forums for your DAW of choice and make sure there are no issues with the R7. I've read of issues with some DAWs.

Looks like boards like these are still being made but are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Industrial computer manufacturers seem to have new-ish ATX motherboards with PCI slots in stock however.
