i7 on Z87 Board and 970GTX for 2016 upgrades for PC gaming.

I am currently running.

Asus Z87 ROG mATX
Intel 4670K @ stock speeds.
32GB of 1600Mhz Ram
2 X 760GTX in SLI

Mainly a gaming PC.

I am playing currently, FC4, Borderlands Series and thinking about Dying Light, but I have been told my GPU do not meet specification requirements for this game.

I currently have one 970GTX, but I can not use it as my CUBE case does not have room for it, but I might move to it later in the in year, (if I purchase a new case)

Would moving or upgrading to an i7 with a 970GTX make great impact on my system for any predicted games for 2016??

I am looking to make a i7 purchase somewhere in 4 to 6 months. (along with possible bigger case)

Any thoughts on this?

gpu wise there wont be a gigantic performance difference. but the Power usage will drop quite a bit. cpu wise you will feel a significant difference. i there is a rebate on the x99 Boards and cpu i would go for that

I've had an i7 960 (4.1Ghz), i7 4770K (stock), and i7 5930K (4.2Ghz) running within the last 18 months and I can tell you that CPU difference is negligible when it comes to gaming, so getting an X99 CPU won't help you, actually for gaming your 4670K is already more than enough; the only thing you really need for some games coming out is 4GB of VRAM; price to performance the winner is the 290; though I'd recommend the 290X over the 970 hands down (it's more powerful), but since you already have a 970 (unless you sell it), I'd just sell your 2 760s and the case and transfer the rest to a new case and add another 970 in SLI. I would think you'd make enough selling the 760s and the case to get close to enough for another 970.

Gaming wise going from an i5 4670k to an i7 will net you very little gain. I run a 4670k at stock speeds with a superclock 980 and never see my cpu usage over 40% on any game I play.

Now if your doing photo shop, cad, or recording/streaming a game while playing it then an i7 will help you out.

Their no reason to go from the i5 to i7 for gaming you spending a lot of money for little to no differance.
You have already wasted a lot using 32gb of memory for gaming you will never use 8gb.

Thanks for all your answers, just as *note* this system was originally designed to run as 1. gaming system and 2. Server 2008 R2, VM server for studying Server 2008 R2, failed attempt.
*thus the 32GB of RAM*

I think that moving a a larger case and using the one 970GTX, later SLI, would be my best solution.
