I7 or 955 BE

I do 3d animations, renderings, and a multitude of other multimedia projects.
I have done my homework on the 920 i7 and 955 BE, but i have not gotten the chance to test these components out first hand.

so, does anyone have any suggestions/opinions on which processor i should choose?

note: This computer WILL NOT be for gaming, this is strictly for animation and rendering.

The core i7 920 is better at multitasking, partly because it has hyperthreading. If you have the budget for the ci7 920 then go for it.
Also with a ci7 920 you'll be going with triple channel memory

I'm not an expert, but if money is not a problem I'd say the 920 will be a win for you.
Try tom's CPU charts, for example the 3ds max one which shows a 12% advantage for the i7 over the phenomII at stock. I like AMD, but I'll have to recommend intel for this sort of stuff until maybe the hexacores come out.

Im not certain, but i have heard ppl having trouble with rendering being slower because of HT. again, idk if this is true or not.

I7 walks all over Phenom II and even shows good gain compared to the I5 with mental ray rendering in 3ds max, simply due to hyperthreading.
