ok , heres the dilema , i currently own the following

lanparty x48 ut t2r mobo
E8400
8 gig of ocz 8500 reaper ddr2
powercolour 4870x2 gfx card
raptor 150 gig main drive
asus xonar dx
watercooled system with dtek fusion v2 , ek 4870x2 nickel block ,
laing ddc 1+ ultra 18w , ek 150 res

now im considering upgrade , is there any major benefit in going to an I7 920 proccessor
+ a dfi lanparty x58 mobo , or stick with current setup and get a Q9650 proccessor?
im looking at price vs performance , if i stick with current setup i can look at getting a
SSD drive with cash left over.

Unless you have a heavy media encoder, the Q9650 wins hands down (for the money). In most games, the i7 920 beats the Q9650 by less than 5%, in others it even performs worst (lower clock speed).

For SSD, I would wait unless you really really really want one. The gain isn't that great and I'm pretty sure the prices will drop steeply in the next 1-2 years. Save the money toward that i7 build and/or a bigger monitor (no idea what you have now) and/or the next great GPU.

cheers guys . talked some sense inot me lol , you know what its like , get bitten by the upgrade bug
i kinda figured it wasnt worth it , but just need some of you experienced guys to remind me :D
as for the ssd im thinking as you said , hold off and get a velociraptor instead (my standard raptor isnt big enough tbh)
the old proccessor and raptor will go in my son's computer so no redundant parts ofc , he'll be happy too hehe
