i7 vs i5

Like, processors aren't used that much in gaming except for games with AI like GTA IV, and from my experience Battlefield. But, how is the i7 better than an i5? For gaming, and for rendering.

Like, does it only matter what their speed is? (X.Xghz) and their cores? Or are they actually different in any way.

For gaming and Rendering, the i7 because it has hyperthreading. Hyperthreading is a special technology where each cpu core has two threads, so on supported programs each core can do a workload twice as fast than without hyperthreading.

Speed is so close on all i5 and i7s that it doesn't really matter.

Always get a quad core if you can, especially if your rendering. Dual cores are going to be phased out soon because they just don't pack a punch anymore, soon quads will be the norm.

basicaly the only difference between i5m i7 is that i5 is quad core, i7 is quad core hyperthreaded (so you might look at it as 8 core)
well simply said, the more cores the better for rendering... for gaming (no stream, no recording) a good i5 is good enough

there is an i7 six core hyperthreaded (so 12 threads)... thats the 2011 socket... very pricy, for people doing a lot of editing...

There are very few games that support more than 4 cores. Heck, many games utilize only 2 cores....So a quadcore is on the safe side for gaming.
